Automated Flow Control for Major Wastewater Treatment Plant in Jordan

Automated Flow Control for Major Wastewater Treatment Plant in Jordan

A large wastewater treatment plant in Jordan required a robust, actuated valve solution that could handle high-pressure flow control and isolation, without compromising accuracy or reliability. After carefully reviewing their options, the client chose T-T Flow’s eccentric plug valves for their superior engineering, availability, and dedicated technical support

The Challenge

Initially opened in 2006, Samra Wastewater Treatment Plant now serves 5 million people each day by treating up to 370,000 cubic metres of wastewater, putting the site at 92% capacity.

As part of their expansion, the client needed intelligent actuated isolation valves rated to 25 bar for accurate automatic flow control on their site. The solution needed to provide precise throttling, bi-directional sealing, and durability in a harsh operational environment handling treated wastewater.

The Solution

Working alongside the asset owner, our engineers specified two bi-directional eccentric plug valves to meet the hydraulic profile and media handling requirements of the application. Designed for demanding applications, the eccentric plug valves supplied featured:

  • Design compliance: AWWA C517, EN1092-2 PN25, EN558 Series 3
  • Pressure rating: 16 bar standard, up to 25 bar upon request
  • Size range: DN50 to DN600, larger sizes available
  • Bi-directional sealing for flexible flow control and isolation
  • Construction materials:
    • Ductile iron body for strength-to-weight advantage
    • AISI 316L (1.4404) weld-overlay seat for enhanced wear and corrosion resistance
    • Rubber-encapsulated plug (EPDM or nitrile) with stainless steel stem sleeve
  • Actuation-ready: Integral ISO5211 interface
  • Testing: Hydraulic testing to EN12266 standards
  • Mounting flexibility: Suitable for both horizontal and vertical installation

To complete the package, each valve was fitted with electric quarter-turn actuators, chosen based on exact torque requirements. Before shipping, every valve and actuator was assembled and tested in-house, making on-site installation quick and hassle-free.

The actuators came with:

  • Position feedback and limit switches
  • Integration with plant automation systems (SCADA/PLC)
  • Manual override for maintenance
  • Weather- and corrosion-resistant enclosures suitable for treatment plant environments

Results & Benefits

The automated valve system brought noticeable improvements:

  • Precise control maximising hydraulic efficiency
  • Pre-tested assemblies simplified commissioning and reduced risk
  • High-performance materials extend service life
  • Fast, reliable support ensured smooth deployment and long-term reliability

With a fully automated, high-pressure valve solution now in place, the Jordan wastewater treatment plant has achieved more precise flow control, improved operational efficiency, and long-term reliability in a demanding environment. The successful integration of robust valves and electric actuators has not only streamlined process control but also laid the groundwork for easier maintenance and future scalability.
