Bespoke Control Panel: Portable Test Rig

T-T Controls® recently completed a bespoke controls solution for an environmental services company in need of a portable test rig.

The Problem

The company needed a control panel to test valve manifold systems installed in ATEX rated zones across multiple sites for one of their clients, with the manifolds themselves consisting of five shut-off solenoid valves that control the flow of hydrogen gas into pneumatic actuators.

The test rig needed to be sturdy and portable for transport between sites, with the customer also placing an emphasis on ease of use for the operatives who will be testing the valves and actuator limit switches.

The Solution

T-T Controls® designed and manufactured a bespoke, plug-and-play control panel, fitting it into a carry case with wheels and a retractable handle for safe and easy transportation. 
The control panel included manual controls and status indicators (open/ closed) for each solenoid valve from the actuator limit switch, which were easily accessible from dip switches mounted on the outside of the case.

With the presence of hydrogen gas putting the valve manifolds in ATEX-rated zones, the control panel needs to be set up in a designated safe area that the client reported would be approximately 15 metres away. Because of this, the team also supplied a junction box to minimise wiring across this distance and to facilitate quick and easy connection between the two.
