Custom Check Valves for Water Desalination Facilities in Dubai

As part of a huge US $23.4bn upgrade programme of water desalination facilities in Dubai, T-T was engaged to supply six custom-manufactured check valves to support the conversion of a conventional thermal desalination plant to an efficient combined cycle cogeneration operation.
The Problem
Formed in 1992, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is the exclusive provider of electricity and water services across the emirate. It operates a number of water desalination facilities capable of producing 445 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) of water, supported by a seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plant that can be called upon for a further 25 MIGD.
In January 2021, DEWA announced a US $23.4bn investment programme to increase capacity further to 750 MIGD by 2030. A key part of delivering this ambitious project was the conversion of the Jebel Ali Station D conventional thermal desalination plant to a combined cycle cogeneration operation, which involves the simultaneous production of electricity and heat from a single unit for increased efficiency, lower emissions and reduced energy costs.
To assist with the conversion, there was a requirement for custom-developed check valves to be used as part of the refurbishment package. These needed to have enhanced coatings and Duplex components due to the high concentration of laden water.
The Solution
T-T Flow® was entrusted to supply six custom-manufactured check valves, contributing to delivering increased production capacity and energy efficiency of the facility. T-T has extensive experience in the design, manufacture, and supply of custom valves, making it the natural partner for prestigious projects.
Working in line with the client’s specific requirements, we successfully manufactured and delivered three DN800 and three DN1100 tilting disc check valves, which were custom-made to accommodate the requirement for enhanced coatings and Duplex components. The valves have external weighted arms rated to withstand 16 Bar, offering a large flow area, low head loss characteristics and short disc travel to assist in avoiding slam conditions.
The valves were delivered on time to ensure that the project progressed smoothly and that the upgrade programme remained on track.
T-T Flow® offers an extensive range of Check Valves for use in potable, clean and wastewater applications, with each having undergone stringent independent testing by the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS).
