Emergency Non-Slam Check Valves for Forest of Dean

Emergency Non-Slam Check Valves for Forest of Dean

A catastrophic DN900 high-pressure pipeline failure at the Wyelands intake pumping station led to a significant water supply disruption, leaving many households without drinking water. Emergency response teams, including 45 firefighters and water authority engineers, were deployed to manage the crisis and restore supply.

The Forest of Dean, designated as England’s first National Forest Park over 70 years ago, is renowned for its natural beauty and outdoor activities. However, early last year, this tranquil setting was disrupted by the urgent need to address a major infrastructure failure.

Client Challenges

The contractor responsible for the refurbishment faced multiple challenges, including the replacement of 40-year-old valves with imperial dimensions and the complexities of working in restrictive confined spaces. The existing valve framework manufacturer was unable to accommodate the non-standard design configurations required for this project.

T-T Flow® were approached to provide a tailored solution. Following in-depth technical discussions, a contract was secured for the supply of several replacement valves designed to meet the project’s specific requirements.

The supplied valves included:

  • Three DN400 engineered high-performance non-slam check valves rated to 40 Bar, featuring imperial BS10-H flange drillings, integral bypass arrangements, and non-standard face-to-face dimensions to avoid costly pipework modifications.
  • A DN900 wedge gate valve with a bypass assembly rated to 25 Bar, complete with remote electrically actuated operating equipment, fabricated in-house to suit site-specific requirements.

Manufacturing Excellence and Compliance

All valves were manufactured using robust ductile iron with WRAS-approved coatings and materials to ensure the drinking water network remained uncontaminated. T-T Flow®'s ability to deliver customised solutions within strict project constraints underscored its commitment to quality and reliability.

Results and Impact

By supplying high-performance, site-specific valves, T-T Flow® played a crucial role in restoring the water supply and preventing further disruptions. The successful completion of this project demonstrated the company’s expertise in engineering-tailored solutions for complex infrastructure challenges.
