Eccentric Plug Valves for Wastewater Treatment Works

Delivered through a merchant for a project at a major wastewater treatment plant in Hampshire, T-T Flow® won an order to supply three DN400 eccentric plug valves with directly mounted intelligent Rotork actuators for flow throttling and isolation duties.
The Problem
Slowhill Copse Wastewater Treatment Works is a large sewage treatment plant in Marchwood, located close to the banks of the River Test on the western shore of Southampton Water. The largest capacity facility of its kind in the New Forest catchment area, the plant is capable of recycling over 16,000 m³ of wastewater each day during periods of dry weather.
During upgrade works at the Southern Water-operated site, there was a requirement for eccentric plug valves used for flow isolation and throttling duties. With our extensive expertise and complete range of valves for any application, our merchant knew we would have the perfect solution to fit the required specification.
The Solution
T-T Flow® sized and supplied three DN400 eccentric plug valves with directly mounted intelligent Rotork actuators. Our in-house engineering teams were able to assemble and undertake functional testing of each valve, working hard to ensure trouble-free installation and commissioning.
Eccentric plug valves, manufactured to AWWA C517, are quarter-turn control valves ideal for flow isolation and throttling duties. The eccentric geometry results in the plug simultaneously lifting and rotating off the seat, reducing operating torque and wear. When fully open, the plug is clear of the flow path, ensuring minimal head loss and excellent flow efficiencies.
Eccentric plug valves lend themselves to wide-ranging applications such as potable water, raw water, wastewater, sewage, slurry, gases and general industrial use. T-T's full-port bi-directional eccentric plug valve features innovative market-leading enhancements such as a precision machined weld-overlay body seat in acid-resistant stainless steel (1.4404 / AISI 316L), interference fit stainless steel stem sleeve ensuring a dependable corrosion-resistant sealing zone, and an integral ISO5211 interface for cost-effective efficient actuation.
As you would expect, the plug is supported in a self-lubricated stainless-steel bearing with PTFE thrust washers, maintainable in-service V-type stem seals and fully coated in a durable fusion bonded epoxy coating.
The valves were supplied with high-quality directly mounted actuators manufactured by Roturk, leading UK-headquartered designers and manufacturers of electric, pneumatic and hydraulic valve actuators for the remote operation and monitoring of valves.
T-T stocks eccentric plug valves from DN80 to DN300, rated to 16 Bar, flanged to EN1092 and available with either a nitrile or WRAS-listed EPDM vulcanised plug. Furthermore, a full range of accessories including operating levers, gearboxes, actuators and custom operating equipment is also available.
