Long-Term Fix for Troubled Surface Water Pump Station

Long-Term Fix for Troubled Surface Water Pump Station

When a client came to T-T with an unreliable surface water pumping station, experts from our Pumping Station and Agricultural department worked together to specify an effective, long-term solution that reliably keeps their site dry.

The Problem

A leading UK provider of infrastructure and construction services was experiencing continuous issues with their site’s surface water pumping station.

Silt present in the pumped medium was settling at the bottom of the pump chamber and this build-up was causing the station’s pumps to trip and wear faster than expected, dramatically reducing their life expectancy and leading to excessive breakdown call-outs.

Due to the imminent risk of flooding, the client was relying on costly tankering services and emergency repairs to prevent the station from overflowing, as it would damage both their site and the surrounding environment.

The Solution

A TBX mixer was specified and installed in the wet well to agitate solids within the collected surface water, putting the sediment into suspension so that it can be pumped away rather than settling at the bottom of the chamber and causing the pumps to trip.

The TBX submersible mixer was chosen for its corrosion resistant and durable stainless-steel construction and self-cleaning impeller profile that prevents solids from sticking to the blades and impacting the mixer’s performance.

With the mixer and a new control panel installed for automatic operation, it was estimated that the site will save up to £10,000 a year on additional breakdowns, repairs and tankering costs.
