Screw Press Separator for Slurry Management

The Problem

An automated dairy farm was running low on slurry storage space and had noticed a recent decline in the quality of their soil. They wanted a solution that wasn’t just adding more storage space to their site due to the environmental impact of construction, the green space it would occupy and the increased risk of spillages and water contamination brought about by increasing their on-site storage facilities.

The Solution

Our Agricultural and Environmental team set out to solve both of the farm’s issues with one solution and, based on their cattle size and waste output, specified an SM260 screw press separator from Cri-Man.

The SM260 produces up to 30% dry matter, separating the liquid and solid parts of slurry using a screw conveyor and screen filter.  The resulting solids materials is nutrient rich and ideal for use as a natural fertiliser, negating the need for it to be stored.

This leaves only the liquid portion of the slurry, which vastly reduces the demand for on-site storage space and the production of greenhouse gasses when in storage – it can also be used for crop fertilisation, reducing the need for chemical solutions that could disrupt the local ecosystem.
