T-T Flow® Enhances Kurdistan’s Potable Water Distribution Network

T-T Flow® has supported the Kurdistan Regional Government Ministry of Municipality and Tourism General Directorate of Water and Sewage in upgrading vital potable water distribution infrastructure. Upon completion, a state-of-the-art water treatment plant will provide 600,000 m³/day of safe and clean drinking water to the community.
Client Challenges
Ensuring the efficient management of air in the pipelines was a critical aspect of this project to prevent potential pipeline damage from water hammer. The project required reliable air valves capable of handling high-pressure conditions while ensuring smooth system operation.
Working closely with a specialist international contractor, T-T Flow® supplied thirteen Aquabrake® air valves featuring integral rapid fill technology. These valves were rated to 25 Bar and performed four key operational functions:
- Controlled release of bulk air from the system during charging
- Intake of bulk air during draining to prevent destructive vacuums and negative pressure conditions
- Automatic release of small air accumulations within the valve
- Engagement of rapid fill mechanism during excessive outflow velocity, preventing sudden closing and slam
The Aquabrake® is a single-chamber lightweight air valve available in several variants, all conforming to EN1074 Part 4 and carrying WRAS approval for potable water applications.
Results and Impact
By integrating Aquabrake® air valves into the infrastructure, T-T Flow® helped ensure the durability and efficiency of the water distribution network, reducing the risk of water hammer and system failure.
