Metal Seat Gate Valves for Emergency Repair

The Problem

Following a serious site failure at a wastewater treatment facility, T-T Flow® were approached by the managing water authority to supply wedge gate and other valves as part of their emergency repair effort.

Intense storms had caused a pipe at the site to rupture, allowing hundreds of litres of raw sewage to spill into the sea in a serious environmental incident.

The Solution

Due to the ongoing environmental damage, the application required a reliable valve package on a very fast turnaround. Our team worked outside of regular business hours and utilised dedicated transport to deliver valves directly to the site to assist in the remedial works.

Within hours of receiving the request, T-T Flow®despatched two DN900 metal seat wedge gate valves with reduction spur gearboxes for efficient actuation to the site. Rated to 16 Bar, conforming to BS5163 and hydraulically tested to EN 12266, these full-bore valves feature precision machined weld-overlay gunmetal seats that can withstand high flow velocities; ensuring the valves will not fail under the pressure of the wastewater treatment facility.

The wedge gate valves’ non-rising stainless steel rolled threads reduce operating friction, with a thrust taking bonnet assembly and epoxy coated ductile iron construction for added durability and corrosion resistance when handling wastewater.

The team also supplied air valves, suitably sized to maintain hydraulic efficiency within the treatment facility. By permitting the bulk release of air as the pipes full, bulk intake of air as the pipes drain and controlled release of accumulated air pockets during regular operation, these valves ensure optimal flow efficiencies.
