Reliable Water Management Solutions for Sandilands High School

Reliable Water Management Solutions for Sandilands High School

Supporting a Modern Educational Environment with Robust Infrastructure

The development of Sandilands High School required a dependable wastewater and surface water management solution capable of supporting a busy educational facility serving approximately 480 pupils and staff.

With extensive catering facilities, high daily usage, and strict drainage requirements, the project demanded systems that would deliver long-term reliability, regulatory compliance, and resilience during adverse weather conditions.

The Challenge

The school required a foul water pumping station capable of handling significant daily demand while providing sufficient emergency storage capacity to satisfy building regulations.

At the same time, the site's drainage strategy needed to effectively manage stormwater during peak rainfall events while controlling discharge rates and protecting the wider network.

Key requirements included:

  • Reliable foul water pumping performance

  • Compliance with emergency storage regulations

  • Effective stormwater management

  • Reduced risk of blockages and maintenance issues

  • Long-term operational reliability

The Solution

Foul Water Pumping Station

To meet the requirement for 24-hour emergency storage, we supplied an XXL 45,000-litre chamber from our Planet® Range of Package Pumping Stations.

The station was equipped with a pair of T-T PTS heavy-duty chopper pumps, selected specifically for their ability to cope with demanding wastewater applications where misuse and debris can often cause problems.

This solution delivered both the storage capacity and pumping resilience required for a high-occupancy educational setting.

Surface Water Pumping Station

To support the site's stormwater strategy, we supplied a BBA-approved Jupiter® pumping chamber installed to a depth of 4.5 metres.

The station featured 150mm ductile iron pipework and was designed to achieve a discharge flow rate of 23 litres per second during storm conditions, helping the site effectively manage surface water while meeting drainage requirements.

Ongoing Support

To maximise reliability and performance, both pumping stations were covered by service agreements and monitored through the Seer® telemetry system.

This provides ongoing visibility of system performance, enabling proactive maintenance and helping to minimise the risk of unexpected downtime.

The Outcome

The completed installation delivered a robust and future-proof water management solution for the school, providing:

  • Full compliance with storage and drainage requirements

  • Reliable foul water management for a busy educational environment

  • Effective stormwater control during extreme weather events

  • Reduced maintenance risks through heavy-duty pump technology

  • Enhanced operational confidence through servicing and remote monitoring

As is often the case with critical infrastructure, success is measured by consistent performance. Since commissioning, the systems have operated reliably, ensuring uninterrupted service and supporting the day-to-day operation of the school.
